Agra is close to Delhi at around a 200 kms distance from Delhi (by road) and 185 Kms (by train). Though most of the tourists travel by Car or Buses to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, the choice of taking train journey is may be equally pleasant and may be more comfortable. It's possible to visit the Taj Mahal in one day from Delhi if you catch the right trains. The journey by train is more fasters as it takes around 2-3 hours to get there, and around same time on the way back. Here's what you need to know about trains from Delhi to Agra.

The Bhopal Shatabdi Express departs New Delhi Railway Station at 6.15 a.m. and arrives at Agra at 8.12 a.m. (just around 2 hour journey). The train has two type of accommodations 1AC and CC. All the Coaches of train are Air conditioned. The fare in 1AC is 700 rupees and in CC is 370 rupees. The catering and foods on board are included in fare both for 1AC and CC and is of good quality also. Thus a fastest and comfortable journey mixed with on board food makes the journey very pleasant.

12280 Taj Express Superfast: The train from Delhi H Nizamuddin Railway Station to Agra is equally popular due to convenient departure timing and economy of fare. It departs at 7.10 a.m. and arrives in Agra at 10.07 a.m. The train has two type of accommodations CC (Air-conditioned) and 2S (Non Air-conditioned). The fare in CC is 263 rupees and in 2S is 75 rupees. The train runs every day.

Agra to Delhi Trains – Late Afternoon Return Journey

12279 Taj Express: The train from Agra to H Nizamuddin Railway Station is equally popular due to convenient departure timing. It departs at 6:55 P.M. (18:55) and arrives in Delhi at 10:00 P.M. (22:00). The train has two type of accommodations CC (Air-conditioned) and 2S (Non Air-conditioned). The fare in CC is 263 rupees and in 2S is 75 rupees. The train runs every day.

12001 NDLS Shatabdi: The Train departs from Agra at 8.30 p.m. (20:30) and arrives at New Delhi Railway Station at 10.30 p.m. (22:30) and runs daily. It's the fastest train from Agra to Delhi. The train has two type of accommodations 1AC and CC. All the Coaches of train are Air conditioned. The fare in 1AC is 745 rupees and in CC is 400 rupees. The catering and food on board are included in fare both for 1AC and CC and is of good quality also. Thus a fastest and comfortable journey mixed with on board food makes the journey very pleasant.

There are many other sleeper trains that run from Delhi to Agra, and vice-versa, during the day. Details of such train could be found on IRCTC or Indian Rail Enquiry. However, the trains listed above are most reliable from the running time and especially from safety point of view.

Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal literally means “crown of buildings”, is a mausoleum located in Agra, India. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.While the white domed marble mausoleum is the most familiar component of the Taj Mahal, it is actually an integrated complex of structures. The construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen. The construction of the Taj Mahal was entrusted to a board of architects under imperial supervision, including Abd ul-Karim Ma'mur Khan, Makramat Khan, and Ustad Ahmad, Lahauri. Lahauri is generally considered to be the principal designer.
