It is a very common
experience that many websites mislead the unsuspecting passengers and guide
them to some undesired web page.
In effort to spread more
awareness among the passengers, we are providing here some general information
for finding of the Indian Railways PNR status safely. For this
purpose, we recommend that at least each passenger shall be aware of the official
URL of Indian Railway i.e. http://www.indianrail.gov.in and
shall go through same and update himself of his requirements periodically.

online PNR status checking is mainly facilitated from the following authorized
websites:
Indian Railways: The online
PNR status finding facility is available on the Indian Railways website www.indianrail.gov.in. To
check the PNR in this site one has to note his PNR number from his
Train Ticket. On the top of the webpage
left hand side, the tab for “PNR Status” could be easily located. The tab shall
be clicked for reaching to the webpage for checking of the PNR status. The
webpage appearance is also given under for familiarization purpose. The
manner of entering the PNR on this page shall be first the 3 digit number in
first space and remaining 7 digits in the next space. After entering the PNR
number, one has to click on the Get PNR Status button. A new window
will open and there the current status of reservation will be shown.
Note: PNR status checking
facility is also could be found on various other regional railways websites also
like Western Railways, Southern Railways, Eastern Railways, and Northern
Railways etc. These websites mostly give on the left hand side a link “PNR
Status” which shall be clicked and rest of the process followed is already
narrated above. However, these sites do not directly provide the status and
only redirect to Indian Railways Enquiry website for finding of the PNR status.
IRCTC PNR Status Checking: This
is Indian Railways catering and tourism arm. The site provides this facility
only to the registered users to the site. Thus one needs to have his account
with IRCTC, if he wishes to avail this facility through this website. In the
site the passenger has to logon and then shall go to the Booked History link,
open his booked ticket and check the PNR Status by clicking on the
Check PNR Status button.
Indian Rail Info: This is a private website
but could be handy in the event when Indian Railways website is busy and slow.
One can check the PNR status by the following link http://indiarailinfo.com/pnr . Also
for the purpose of familiarizing of passengers, a current snippet of website is
given under.
Cleartrip: After
logging on the website, a passenger has to click on the “more” drop down list
on the top of website. After the PNR status checking webpage is shown, there
the 10 digit PNR number is to be entered for checking up of the PNR status.
Mobile SMS:
Now finding of the PNR
status through your mobile SMS is very simplified. To do so one has to send
his PNR number to 139 in the format and manner outlined on the Indian Railways
website.
Telephone Calls:
One can check his PNR
Status by a making a telephone calls also and for that call to 139 could
be made from any landline number. From
mobile, one has to affix the STD Code before 139 to avail this facility.
