There is an ice Siva-linga here that changes size with the seasons, and also as the moon waxes and wanes it becomes bigger and smaller. On the full moon day the linga is about 6 ft high. Each year on the full moon day of July-August (Sravana) when the Siva-linga attains its maximum height there is a festival at this cave temple. It is said that Lord Siva first appeared on this day.

Legend has it that Shiva recounted to Parvati the secret of creation in the Amarnathji cave. Unknown to them, a pair of mating pigeons eavesdropped on this conversation and having learned the secret, are reborn again and again, and have made the cave their eternal abode. Many pilgrims report seeing the pigeons-pair when they trek the arduous route to pay obeisance before the ice-lingam (the phallic symbol of Shiva).

Besides the above main tourist places there are numerous other places which tourist frequent regularly.

Ranthambore Tour | Rajasthan Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary | Rajasthan Ranthmbore Fort | Ranthambore Tiger's

Ranthambore Tour

Ranthambore National Park or Ranthambhore is one of the largest national parks in northern India. Situated about 14 kms from Sawai Madhopur, Ranthambore National Park is one of India's finest tiger reserves. The nearest town and railway station is at Sawai Madhopur, about 11 km away; Kota is another convenient station as many trains stop there. RIDCOR operates a mega highway between Kota and Ranthambhore.

Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary is known for its tigers and is one of the best places in India to see these majestic predators in the jungle. Tigers can be easily spotted even during the day time. A good time to visit Ranthambore National Park is in November and May when the nature of the dry deciduous forests makes sightings common.

The park lies at the edge of a plateau, and is bounded to the north by the Banas River and to the south by the Chambal River. There are several lakes in the park. It is Named after the Ranthambore Fort situated within its precincts, the park covers an area of about 1300 sq kms and is abundant with animal as well as bird life. There are good chances to see the tiger here, but even if it doesn't happen, it's worth a visit for the scenery alone. The close view of wildlife in jeep and elephant safari or the high watchtowers makes your tour to Ranthambore National Park quite memorable. Other major wild animals in the sanctuary include leopard, nilgai, wild boar, sambar, hyena, sloth bear and chital. It is also home to wide variety of trees, plants, birds and reptiles. Ranthambore is also the site of one of the largest banyan trees in India.

Attraction in Ranthambore:

Ranthambore National Park: The top spot of Ranthambore is national park popular for unique combination of past and natural prosperity. Voyagers can enjoy the Jungle safari offered by forest department of Rajasthan. The safari allows visitors to watch wild animals from closer. However, the visit could be very dangerous but much excited too.

Jogi Mahal: This is the splendid forest guest bunglow located at foothills of royal Ranthambore overlooking the beautiful padam talab. The guest house offers amazing services and contemporary facilities to voyagers. However, what attracts a large number of tourists every year to the Jogi Mahal is the ancient banyan tree, the second largest banyan tree in India.

Ranthambore Fort: This fort built by the Chauhans in the 10th century and is one of the oldest forts of Rajasthan better known for bloody and brave efforts of Rajput’s. Its strategic location was ideal for keeping enemies at bay. The fort is associated with the historical tragedy of royal women performing jauhar (self immolation) when Ala-ud-din Khilji sieged this fort in 1303. The fort has many temples, tanks, massive gates and walls.

Surwal Lake: This seasonal lake known as Surwal is next tourist attraction in Ranthambore. The lake is spread in approximately 25 kms area though its seasonal lake so attaining to spot in dry season could be little boring. November to March is best period to reach Surwal Lake as travelers can enjoy water events in mentioned period.

Reaching to Ranthambore:

Air: Jaipur at 180 km is the nearest airport from Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary.

Rail: Ranthambore National Park is around 11 km away from Sawai Madhopur railway station, that lies on the Delhi to Mumbai trunk route. Probably this is the most convenient way of reaching the place from Delhi, Jaipur or Kota. Best train from Delhi is Kota Janshatabdi Express - having 3 AC chair Car Coaches and reaches Sawai Madhopur at 6 pm. On the way back journey, the same train Kota Janshatabdi Express shall be taken which reaches Delhi at 7 am in the morning. Another train from Delhi is the August Kranti Express- this is the cleanest, fastest and most punctual train; hygienic meals are served aboard the train. Train departs from Nizammudin railway station in Delhi; the Sawai Madhopur stop is a short one (2 minutes) so be ready when your station comes. For the return to Delhi, again catch the Rajdhani- this one is coming from Mumbai and also terminates at the Nizammudin station in Delhi. Again Sawai Madhopur is a short stop.

Roads: A good network of buses connect Sawai Madhopur, the nearest town from Ranthambore to all the major cities within the state of Rajasthan. The frequency of direct services though is not very great. Mostly you have to hire a Car or a Taxi from Kota to Ranthambhore. Kota - Ranthambore is a Mega Highway and can be covered in 1.5 hours easily.
